The Greg Vasich Memorial was established at Naperville Central High School as a lasting way of preserving Gregs memory and a testament to the incredible value and fullness of his life. His close friends, have pledged to maintain the standing of the fund throughout their lifetimes. Greg meant so much to the people who were closest to him. He loved the adventures of life; he was an optimist, a team player and supportive friend, a fine musician, and a motivated, successful student. Most importantly, Greg was a man of character and moral courage: loyal, kind, patient, loving, and sought always to put others before himself. Gregs good personhood is that quality they would most like his memorial to honor. As so many of Gregs favorite parts of high school involved playing in Naperville Centrals numerous bands and music ensembles, the award should ideally recognize a graduating senior band or music student who exemplified these characteristics. As Greg loved learning, we feel the memorial should be given to a student further pursuing his or her education after high school. We would like the student who receives the memorial to understand the kind of person that Greg was and see the way they live their life as a partial fulfillment of his lifes promise. The student recipient of the Greg Vasich Memorial should exemplify some or all of the characteristics listed here as a tribute to and reminder of our much loved friend. |

A thank you note from Jessica L. 2010 - I just wanted to thank you again for the scholarship money given to me when I was awarded the Greg Vasich Memorial scholorship through the band department. I'm very honored that my directors saw me fit to receive this award and hopefully I'll do Greg and your family proud as I pursue a degree in music education at Aubun University.... |
| A thank you note from Alex N. 2005 I just wanted to let you know how honored I feel to be associated with Greg's values and personality. Though our lives touched only briefly I still remember being in awe of Greg, the big high school senior, joking around with Chris and my seventh grade solo and ensemble group at Lincoln Junior High School. I was glad to find that I share may of Greg's interests, most notably engineering and music. I plan to pursue an education in electrical engineering. I will also continue to make music through college and by marching with the Colts Drum and Bugle Corps this summer. I cannot begin to express my gratitude for your generosity and for sharing Greg's memory. This is something I will carry with me all of my life. Alex N. |

| A thank you from Brandon R. July 2004: I can't even begin to tell you how honored I am to be the first recipient of the Greg Vasich Memorial Scholarship. Although I did not know Greg personally, I have been in band with Chris and Stevan , and have heard many great stories about Greg and his passion for people and music. I am happy to say that I also share those passions. As you know, I will be on tour this summer with the Colts. Drum and Bugle corps. When I return I plan to use the experience I gain as a member of the Colts to assist the band directors with the Naperville Central Marching Redhawks. Your generous scholarship will help me pursue my education in music and for that I cannot thank you enough. Your family's strength and generosity is a true inspiration to me and something I will remember and appreciate forever. Brandon R. |
