Gregory Vasich Memorial Fund
at University of Illinois
Greg played trombone for the University of Illinois Marching Illini for 5 seasons from 1999-2003.
The Gregory Vasich Memorial Fund at the University of Illinois will benefit the Marching Illini. It is an endowment account through the University of Illinois Foundation (UIF). Each fall, this memorial fund will provide funding for a Marching Illini halftime show. These funds will be used to choreograph and rehearse the show. Greg frequently talked about the music and choreography for each show and the grad students who made the arrangements. Now once a year, during a U of I football game, an announcement will be made that the halftime show is paid for with funds from the Greg Vasich Memorial Fund. His name will also be placed on the music the band members will use. Both Mr. Keene (Director of Bands) and the Vasich family felt this would be one of the best ways to keep Greg's memory alive. Over the years when U of I alumni, former band members as well as people in the crowd attend the football game, they will have the opportunity to remember and think of Greg when his name is announced. This perpetual endowment, established in Greg's name, will ensure that this memorial will continue forever.
